ABOUT ME
Elina G. Asato Hamilton is Assistant Professor of Music and Area Head of Musicology at the University of Hawai'i, Mānoa. She was previously a Visiting Lecturer at M.I.T. and has also taught graduate courses at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Both her teaching and research have been recognized: in 2024, she was the recipient of the Presidential Citation for Meritorious Teaching award at the University of Hawai'i, Mānoa and in 2012, she was the recipient of a prestigious medal from the Drapers' Company for outstanding research, one of only six that has been issued by the medieval guild based in London. She received her MA and Ph.D. from Bangor University where she studied musicology with Christian Leitmeir and Thomas Schmidt and a BMus in Piano Performance from Portland State University, where she studied with pianist Harold Gray, former director of Portland Piano International, and counterpoint and orchestration with composer Bryan Johanson. Elina was born and raised in the mountains of Nagano, Japan and speaks Japanese natively. As a child, she studied piano privately with Kumiko Nishi and Junko Hara and attended Japanese schools.

バッハやベートーヴェンを弾きながら気になったのは西洋音楽の音符の歴史。ピアノ科よりも音楽歴史に興味をもち2008年ウェールズのバンガー大学に音楽学を勉強するため大学院生になる。2009年には博士研究の奨学金を受け, 大英国で5年間14世紀のイギリス音楽の勉強を熟す。研究結果はオクスフォード大学を始めセントアンドリュース大学、プラハのチャールズ大学、アメリカではプリンストン大学、マサチューセッツ工科大学、イエール大学各地で発表する。
